CERIDES is proud to be a founding member of the Cyprus Cyber Security Challenge Advisory Board. Our colleague Dr. Yianna Danidou has attended the 2nd annual meeting that took place at the University of Cyprus on the 29th of January 2019. The annual meeting included a brief update on the 2018 challenge and a planning for the new year.
Cyprus’s Cyber Security Challenge is managed by the Cyprus Computer Society (CCS) that runs IT security-related competitions with the aim of attracting talented people to the IT security industry. The challenge is open to Cypriot citizens meeting specific age criteria. A team consisting of universities, professional bodies, government departments, private industry and public sector organizations manages the Cyprus Cyber Security Challenge.
The goal of the European Cyber Security Challenge (ECSC) is to place
cybersecurity at the service of humankind, with a view to promoting a
peaceful society concerned with the preservation of democratic values, freedom
of thought, dignity and critical thinking.
The growing need for IT security professionals is widely acknowledged
worldwide. To help mitigate this shortage of skills, many countries
launched national cybersecurity competitions targeting students, university
graduates or even non-ICT professionals with a clear aim to find new and young
cyber talents and encourage young people to pursue a career in cybersecurity.
The European Cyber Security Challenge (ECSC) leverages on these competitions by
adding a pan-European layer.
