CERIDES at the Home of the Future EU Civil-Protection Centre-of-Expertise for Forest-Fires

A delegation of CERIDES – Center of Excellence in Risk and Decision Sciences, comprised of #CERIDES-Director Prof. George Boustras and #CERIDES-Co-Director Assoc.Prof.  Christos Dimopoulos, has commenced their #WorkingVisit at Nîmes Métropole, within the context of the European Commission #DG_ECHO EU Civil Protection & Humanitarian Aid project #NEMAUSUS.

    

NEMAUSUS – “Network of European Multihazard cApacities hUb of Scientifics Understanding and Sharing” is a Knowledge-Network funded by DG ECHO through the #UCPM – Union Civil Protection Mechanism. The project will define the preliminary settings of a European Centre of Expertise dedicated to Forest-fires / Wildfires. NEMAUSUS will design, develop and implement this wildland-and-forest-fires dedicated Centre-of-Expertise in the future, as a pilot project for the UCPM-KN as per “Connect, Share and Grow”. It will be open to all Member States and possibly to neighbourhood policy countries to contribute to capacity development and science for forest/wildfires. The Project is coordinated by the French Sécurité CivileCERIDES has an integral contribution and crucial involvement.

As #Nimes will be home to the new #EU #Center_of_Expertise in #ForestFires, DAY-1 featured highlight visits to the #Airbase of DGSI – Direction générale de la sécurité intérieure and relevant cutting-edge facilities, as well as the #AerialFirefighting #SimulationCentre powered by VALABRE.
