CERIDES, as the Coordinator of the EU-funded HEU-WIDERA-Twinning project (GA.no.101079337) “SEMEDFIRE – SouthEastern Mediterranean Excellence-Development in Fire-Research“, was very delighted to host a two-day Hands-On-Training on: “Aerial Means for Firefighting Forest-Fires/Wildfires“, on 12 and 13 February 2025, which was placed under the Auspices of the Honourable Minister of the Interior of the Republic of Cyprus, and had the supportive collaboration of the French Embassy in Cyprus.
The Hands-On-Training was conducted by our SEMEDFIRE Advanced Partners from the General Directorate for Civil Protection and Crisis Management of the French Ministry of Interior (DGSCGC) and Nimes Metropole, and we were privileged that they brought also an Expert Trainer from ENTENTE-VALABRE; the French national organisation for research, training, innovation and certification in Civil Protection.
We were honoured by the presence and active participation of Trainees who are tactical / operational personnel and officers from Cyprus, France, Greece, Jordan, and the British Bases in Cyprus.
The trainees enjoyed some seminar-style presentations on concepts of Safety-Culture and Civil-Security, on the Civil Protection System of France, on the Civil Protection Management-example of Nîmes and its Hub46, but were also tangibly engaged in interactive discussions and knowledge-exchange activities, as well as in scenarios of a table-top exercise based on the “Pyropolis” serious-game participatory-approach previously developed within other SEMEDFIRE-activities.
