CERIDES has successfully co-organised and co-implemented two important Thematic Workshops in cooperation with partners from Palestine and Lebanon, as part of its leading activities for Work Package 3 of the DG-ECHO project HEUREKA (Civil Protection Knowledge Network Partnership Platform – Middle East).

In particular:

  • The 1st Thematic Workshop on Seismic Risk & Vulnerable Groups took place both physically in Ramallah, Palestine, and simultaneously online via Zoom teleconference on Monday the 12th of July 2021.
  • The 2nd Thematic Workshop on Climate Change and Preparedness for Pandemic Situations took place online on Tuesday the 28th of September 2021.

Both workshops gave the opportunity to local stakeholders from Palestine and Lebanon to present the current state of preparedness systems and considerations in their regions with respect to the topics of the workshop. At the same time, it provided regional stakeholders and experts with the opportunity to discuss global developments and provided insights on how disaster cooperation can be improved in the region of eastern Mediterranean and beyond.

HEUREKA is a European DG-ECHO project towards Disaster Risk Reduction in which scientific institutions from Austria, Cyprus, Lebanon and Palestine share their expertise through the Civil Protection Knowledge Partnership Platform – Middle East.
