Strengthening Collaboration with Cyprus Civil Defence Force

CERIDES has long-standing and close collaboration with the Cyprus Civil Defence Force of the Ministry of the Interior of the Republic of Cyprus.

Risk Assessment, Emergency Preparedness, Disaster Management, and Civil Protection in general, have been consistently the subjects of this collaboration’s fruitful interactions, which have frequently taken the form of joint Partnerships in competitively funded EU-projects; such as for example the latest DG-ECHO Union-Civil-Protection-Mechanism project coordinated by CERIDES: “PDEX-JIP: Professional Dialogue Exercise – Jordan, Israel, Palestine“.

Our most recent interaction has taken the form of a hands-on training-seminar on “Principles of Operational Safety and Safety-Culture in the Civil Defence Force“, targeting the expert-audience of the Civil Defence Force’s Limassol District Staff, Volunteer-Rescuers and Civil Defence Stations’ Personnel.

The training-seminar was delivered by our CERIDES’ Research & Strategy Manager, Mr. Pierantonios Papazoglou, who is also a Volunteer in the Civil Defence Force, serving as the Safety Officer & Liaison Officer of the Nicosia-Keryneia Search-&-Rescue Team.

In her welcoming address, the Head of CD-Limassol-District and CD-Spokesperson, Mrs. Olivia Michaelidou, commended on the importance of such hands-on trainings, especially when combining academic/ scientific background such as that of CERIDES with Practitioner field-expertise such as that of the Force’s Volunteer-Rescuers. After the event, Mrs. Michaelidou particularly thanked CERIDES and Mr. Papazoglou for an “… excellent presentation…”, in a relevant popular tweet.
