On the occasion of celebrating-activities for #WorldEarthDay2023 (22April), the Centre-of-Excellence in Risk and Decision Sciences participated in a Field-Visit of the Avakas Gorge, on 23 April 2023.
CERIDES joined the Field-Visit with friends and collaborators from the LIFE-IP-Project Pandoteira, the Cyprus Butterfly Monitoring Scheme, BirdLife Cyprus, and the Cyprus Dragonflies Group.
The representation of CERIDES was conducted as per our research-interests within our “ResAlliance“ project of “Landscape Resilience Knowledge Alliance for Agriculture and Forestry in the Mediterranean Basin”, and our “SEMEDFIRE“ project on “South-Eastern Mediterranean Excellence-Development in Fire-Research”, as well as within the context of our activities as Coordinators of the Cyprus Country-Group of the #EducationForClimate Coalition, and as Affiliated Members of the CLIMPACT-Network.
The Field-Visit focused on biodiversity-monitoring activities, with strong educational and citizen-science elements, but also provided ample time for scientific discussions and exchange-of-views on issues of Management of Protected Areas, Protection and Conservation of Biodiversity and Wildlife, Fostering Resilience of Remote and Rugged Landscapes, as well as of Integrated Fire Management, Fire Governance and Engagement of Communities in Fire Management.
