The UNESCO Chair in Disaster Risk Reduction and Societal Safety in South Eastern Mediterranean was established in March 2025 for a first 4 year term.
The UNESCO Chair aims to become a point of reference for its thematic area in SE Med.
Among the signatories of the Chair are the Fire Service, the Civil Defense Force and the Ministry of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Development of the Republic of Cyprus, the National Observatory of Athens and Imperial College.
As the focus of the Chair is on SE Med, the folowing organisations are also signatories: University of Haifa in Israel, the Lebanon Reforestation Institute, the National Centre for Security and Crises Management of Jordan and the Union for the Mediterranean.
