UNESCO Chairholder Professor Georgios Boustras, introduced the newly established UNESCO Chair in Disaster Risk Reduction and Societal Safety in South Eastern Mediterranean at a special event that took place on July 8, 2025 in Athens. The event focused on the presentation of the New MSc in Disaster Risk Reduction and Security Management which will be offered by European University Cyprus and is supported by the scientific excellence of the Athens National Observatory.

The President of the Board of Directors of the National Observatory of Athens, Professor Spyros Vasilakos provided the keynote of the event and stretched the long and established collaboration of EUC and NOA. Professor Manolis Plionis, ex President of the Board of Directors of NOA, was present; collaboration between the Organisations was established during his presidency.

Ms Marina Alexandrou, Director of Marketing at European University Cyprus, presented the University and emphasized on the expansion plans of EUC. The event took place at the historic headquarters of NOA at Hill of Muses / Hill of Nymps.
