Matthieu was previously head of the water department for the French Ministry of Ecological Transition at the regional directorate for environment, planning and housing in the French Caribbean (Guadeloupe). He joined the European University in Cyprus as research project manager in April 2023.For the past 20 years, he worked on water management issues in government agencies, in the private sector and civil society organizations. He participated actively in the implementation of the European water directive and the European floods directive, especially on the elaboration of strategies and action plans on the large water cycle (landscape planning, aquatic environment preservation and restoration, drought and floods management). He was also involved on regulatory issues facilitating at local level the coordination between environmental law-enforcement agencies on water and biodiversity.Matthieu also worked 10 years for humanitarian action and international cooperation on natural disaster prevention and water related projects, in Indonesia, Thailand, Haiti and at the French Red Cross headquarters.
