The #HackHEUREKA hackathon, which took place as part of the activities of the DG-ECHO project HEUREKA has now been finalised.
The 1st Prize of the #HackHEUREKA competition was unanimously awarded to Ms. Lambrini Papargyri for her excellent concept idea entitled ‘REDI: A prototype for a conversational agent (chatbot) that strengthens the preparedness of communities potentially affected by natural disasters‘.
Ms. Lamprini Papargyri is pursuing her MSc Degree in Artificial Intelligence at the European University of Cyprus with an emphasis in Big Data and Deep Learning. At the same time, she is a PhD student at the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering of the University of Cyprus. She graduated with first-class honours from the Department of Civil Engineering of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. During her studies, she received many awards and scholarships for her academic performance. She has worked as a Researcher and Project Manager in various institutions across Europe.
Needless to say, CERIDES is really proud that Ms Papargyi is currently a postgraduate student of our parent organisation, European University Cyprus.
The judging panel of #HackHEUREKA, consisting of representatives from all HEUREKA consortium partners, found the idea presented by Ms. Papargyri was considered to be very innovative, with high-impact potential in the field of civil protection. The Middle East civil protection stakeholders found it particularly interesting, and readily identified its potential application to their operational environment which faces significant challenges.
