The lawyer and lecturer of the law department of the European University of Cyprus and member of the research team of the “Center of Excellence in Risk and Decision Sciences CERIDES”, Dr Christiana Markou has, with the assistance the trainee lawyer at Markou & co LLC, Vasilis Antoniou, carried out as Trainers a seminar titled “Radicalisation, Terrorism & Legal Framework in the EU”.
The seminar was held on 30.10.2018 at the premises of the European University of Cyprus and was co-organised by CER!DES and European University of Cyprus within the framework of DERAD και Training Aid projects funded by the European Commission. Main aim of the seminar has been the understanding not only of the notion of “Radicalisation” but also of the various forms of its expressions. Additionally, the legal framework of the prevention of violent extremism and terrorism was analyzed, specifically the “Directive 2017/541 on combating terrorism”, relevant Framework Decisions and Directives of the European Union concerning the combating of transborder – organized – crime, which fall within the field of the “European Criminal Law”.
Attentants had the chance to participate in interactive exercises via the internet platform www.traininghermes.eu.
Lawyers, prison staff and law students have attended the particular seminar.
